נָשִׁים - women, וַעֲבָדִים - and slaves, וּקְטַנִּים - and children, פְּטוּרִים - are free, מִן הַסֻּכָּה - from the mitzvah of Sukkah, קָטָן - a child, שֶׁאֵינוֹ צָרִיךְ לְאִמּוֹ - that does not need his mother, חַיָּב בַּסֻּכָּה - is obligated in the mitzvah of Sukkah, מַעֲשֶׂה - A story happened, וְיָלְדָה כַלָּתוֹ שֶׁל שַׁמַּאי הַזָּקֵן - That the daughter-in-law of Shammai Hazak gave birthen, וּפִחֵת אֶת הַמַּעֲזִיבָה - and he removed the plaster, וְסִכֵּךְ - and put sechach, עַל גַּבֵּי הַמִּטָּה - on top of the bed, בִּשְׁבִיל הַקָּטָן - because of the child,
