3 - While pursuing a four-year degree program of his or her choice, the ROTC student must also pursue military studies. Four military curricula are available. All four include classroom and field instruction and practice in leadership development, military skills, and adventure training. If a student has already completed a year or two of college, some of the military requirements can be met through the summer semester Leader Training Course at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Successful completion of both a degree program and military course requirements results in a double reward at graduation – a college diploma and a commission as a U.S. Army officer., 2 - A U.S. citizen with a high school diploma is eligible for an ROTC scholarship if he or she also meets other requirements. A grade point average of 2.50 or more and an acceptable college entry test (SAT or ACT) score establish academic eligibility. In addition, the prospective student must meet physical requirements and agree to enter the military after graduation., 1 - For many Americans a college degree is an important component of The American Dream. College is expensive, though, and even with scholarships and grants, many students must borrow to meet expenses. An alternative method of financing college is the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. To participate in this program it is necessary to meet entry requirements, complete military training while in college, and serve in the military after graduation., 5 - The requirements to enter the ROTC program, the perseverance necessary to complete the program, and the experience gained from serving in the military add a distinctive advantage to a hardearned college degree. It isn’t surprising that many ROTC trained officers choose to serve in the Army long after their obligation is complete. Nor is it surprising that the civilian world eagerly welcomes them into positions of leadership no matter how long they have served., 4 - Immediately after receiving their commissions, the new officers begin their military careers. The training and education are not over. The new Second Lieutenants first take specialized training leading to assignment in their first Army branch. Later, additional specialized training and even postgraduate education may be encouraged. ROTC officers must serve four years on active duty where leadership and staff positions are usual. The remainder of their eightyear obligation can be served in the Individual Ready Reserve. These years of military training and experience are a strong foundation for job success and advancement in the civilian world.,
