מַעֲשֶׂה - a story, עַבְדּוֹ שֶׁל - the slave of, שֶׁהָיָה יָשֵׁן - that he was sleeping, תַּחַת הַמִּטָּה - under the bed, וְאָמַר לָהֶן - and he said to them, רְאִיתֶם - do you see, טָבִי עַבְדִּי - Tuvi my slave, שֶׁהוּא תַלְמִיד חָכָם - that he is a talmid chacham, וְיוֹדֵעַ - and he knows, שֶׁעֲבָדִים פְּטוּרִין - that slaves are free, מִן הַסֻּכָּה - from the [mitzvah of] sukkah, לְפִיכָךְ - therefore, יָשֵׁן הוּא - he sleeps, וּלְפִי דַרְכֵּנוּ - And according to our way, לָמַדְנוּ - we learn, לֹא יָצָא יְדֵי חוֹבָתוֹ - does not fulfill his obligation,
