Complications include respiratory arrest, pneumothorax, and pulmonary edema, PNEUMOTHORAX - Collection of air in the pleural space caused by chronic lung diseases, CPR, surgery, or trauma. Symptoms include chest pain, tachypnea, retractions, nasal flaring, grunting, pallor, cyanosis, tachycardia, and absent or diminished lung sounds on affected side. Management includes oxygen, needle aspiration, and chest tubes, CONGENITAL LARYNGOMALACIA - Due to the laryngeal structure being weaker than normal, yielding a greater collapse on inspiration. Inspiratory stridor, suprasternal retractions are present. Typically improves as the cartilage in the larynx matures (around 1 year), CROUP - Also called laryngotracheobronchitis because it is inflammation and edema of the larynx trachea, and bronchi as a result of a viral infection. Corticosteroids (single dose) are often used to decrease inflammation, ASTHMA - Chronic inflammatory airway disorder characterized by hyperresponsiveness airway edema, and mucus production, BRONCHOPULMONARY DYSPLASIA - Chronic lung disease seen is mainly premature infants resulting from pulmonary immaturity, injury, trauma, inflammatory mediators. Number of normal alveoli is reduced by 1/3 - ½ . Rales are often heard, CYSTIC FIBROSIS  - Results in THICKEN, TENACIOUS SECRETIONS IN THE SWEAT GLANDS, GI TRACT, PANCREAS, RESPIRATORY TRACT, AND OTHER EXOCRINE TISSUES. The increased viscosity of these secretions makes them difficult to clear. Sweat glands produce a larger amount of chloride leading to a salty taste of the skin and alterations in electrolyte balance and dehydration.,
