Lee evacuates Petersburg and tries to meet Johnson to continue fighting. However, Grant surrounds what's left of Lee's army at ____. Lee surrenders on April 9, 1865. Lincoln gives a victory speech and talks about black voting rights. John Wilkes Booth is in the crowd and is furious.
