Debate - A formal contest of skill in reasoned argument., Proposition - The statement of the point to be debated., Resolution - The formal Statement of the proposition., Affirmative - Yes or true; the side that agrees with the resolution, Negative - No or false; the side that disagrees with the resolution, Burden of proof - The duty or responsibility to prove something; affirmative side has this duty., Status Quo - Means “the state in which” or how things are now; negative side defends this in their debate., Argument - A reason for favoring a side of a proposition., Constructive - The specific speech that a debater make to build a case; each student will give a 5-minute constructive speech, Cross-Examination - You ask your opponent questions immediately after their constructive speech, Refute - To show that something is false or wrong, Rebuttal - A speech to weaken or contradict an opponent’s earlier statement; each student will give a 2½ to 3 minute rebuttal.,
