זֶה הַכְּלָל - This is the rule, כֹּל שֶׁהוּא מְקַבֵּל טֻמְאָה - anything that can become tamei, וְאֵין גִּדּוּלוֹ מִן הָאָרֶץ - or it does not grow from the ground, אֵין מְסַכְּכִין בּוֹ - we cannot cover the sukkah with it, וְכָל דָּבָר - and anything, שֶׁאֵינוֹ מְקַבֵּל טֻמְאָה - that cannot become tamei, וְגִדּוּלוֹ מִן הָאָרֶץ - and it grows from the ground, מְסַכְּכִין בּוֹ - we can cover the sukkah with it,
