WINGS - offstage spaces to the sides of the acting area., PROSCENIUM - four-sided stage built like a box with one side cut away, enabling the audience to view the play as if it were in a picture frame., TEASER/BORDER - short, horizontal drape or curtain hung across the top of the stage to hide the lighting instruments from the audience’s view., ELECTRIC - batten or pipe hanging from above into which lighting instruments are hung to illuminate the stage, a power source for light., APRON - part of the stage extending past the proscenium arch toward the audience., FRESNEL - type of lighting instrument that casts a soft–edged beam of light, projects/throws light only short distances, used to blend areas of light., ELLIPSOIDAL - type of lighting instrument that produces a sharp-edged beam of light, can project/throw light farther than a Fresnel, used for distance., BLOCKING - actor’s movement on stage., CROSS - an actor’s move from one area of the stage to another, abbreviated with X., STRIKE - the breaking down and removal of a stage set after a production has ended. Everything is removed from the stage and put away., LEGS - tall, narrow curtains hung parallel to the proscenium at the sides of the stage.
