Discovered with her burial were jet and elephant ivory bracelets, earrings, pendants, beads, a blue glass jug and a glass mirror. 3) Were you area in c. 1507 Black Tudors John Blanke, one of the court trumpeters, was present in the entourage of Henry VII from at least 1507. Quintus Lollius Urbicus was a Numidian Berber governor of Roman Britain between the years 139 and 142, during the reign of the Emperor Antoninus Pius. 6)  Were you aware - AD 208 The African born Emporer, Septimus Severus travelled to Britain where he spent time organising the strengthening of Hadrian’s Wall, and the Antonine Wall 7) Did you know in 1729 - 1780 Ignatius Sancho The first African prose writer published in England, Sancho became a financially householder and the first independent male householder and the first known black British voter.   8) Did you know in 1760s: Black Londoners account for 10,000- 15,000 of the nation’s 20,000 black people. 9) Did you know - Black Loyalists in 18th Century London in 1786 there were over 1,000 black loyalists living in London. 10) 1913 John Archer, a British politician and political activist, was elected Mayor of Battersea, becoming the first black mayor in London.  11) Did you know in 1939-1945 World War II Around 10,000 Caribbean men and women joined the British armed forces, working  behind the scenes and on the frontlines to defeat the Nazis. 12) Did you know in 1914-1918 World War I: Black soldiers could be found in all branches of the British armed forces. She was the first Black Queen of England. Philippa was of Black Moorish ancestry, born in Valenciennes in the County of Hainaut in the Low Countries of northern France.
